INTRODUCTION:
SORANIB 200 mg contains Sorafenib which belongs to the group of medicines called antineoplastic agents. It is used to treat liver and thyroid cancer. It can also be used to treat advanced cancer of kidney, when standard therapy cannot cure the disease. Sorafenib works by slowing down the rate of growth of tumor cells and arrests blood supply to them.
This medicine can be taken either without food or with a low-to-moderate fat meal. Do not take this medicine with high fat meals, because this may make SORANIB less effective. It is important to take this medicine at same time each day, so that there is a steady concentration in your bloodstream. During the treatment, your doctor would monitor your blood pressure and blood sugar levels regularly to avoid any unwanted side effects.
The most common side effects of taking this medicine are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hair loss, headache, muscle pain and mouth sores. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have severe kidney or liver impairment. While taking this medicine, avoid becoming pregnant. If you could become pregnant use an adequate contraceptive method. Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine, because it may interfere with the growth and development of your baby. HOW SORANIB 200 MG WORKS:
Sorafenib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that acts by decreasing the proliferation of tumor cells. It inhibits various intracellular and cell surface kinases, that are responsible for tumor growth, tumor cell signaling, angiogenesis and arrests blood supply to the cancer cells which results in apoptosis (death of cells).
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Take this medicine as directed by your physician. It can be taken either without food or with a low-to-moderate fat meal. Try to take this medicine at same time each day. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your condition. Continue to take this medicine, as long as your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results.

COMMON

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS:
Nausea or vomiting:
Try taking this medicine with, or just after meal. Stick to simple meals. Do not eat rich or spicy food.
Constipation:
Eat fiber rich foods like fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals. Drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Diarrhea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or juice, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any medicines without speaking to a doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have smaller and frequent meals. Keeping a heat pad on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if your ability is affected by this medicine.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine.
KIDNEY
SORANIB 200 mg should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
SORANIB 200 mg should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sorafenib.
HEART DISEASE
SORANIB should be taken with caution in patients with high blood pressure or other heart disorders. Consult your doctor for advice.
INTERACTIONS:

Rifampicin, neomycin or other medicines used to treat infections
St John’s wort (a herbal treatment used to treat depression)
Medicines used to treat epilepsy (e.g. phenytoin, carbamazepine or phenobarbital)
Dexamethasone (a corticosteroid used for various conditions)
Anticoagulants used to prevent blood clots (e.g. warfarin or phenprocoumon)
Other medicines used to treat cancer (doxorubicin, capecitabine, docetaxel, paclitaxel and irinotecan)
Digoxin (used to treat mild to moderate heart failure)
