WHAT IS PYRAZINAMIDE?
Pyrazinamide is an antibiotic medication prescribed mainly for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB). It may also be used for treatment of other infections. Pyrazinamide is available under several trade names, one of which is Pyzina (made by Lupin).
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PYRAZINAMIDE:
Do not take Pyrazinamide (Pyzina) if you have a known allergy to it. Tell your doctor about it. Also, let your doctor know in advance if you have any of the following conditions: liver disease, gout, kidney disease, or diabetes mellitus.
Pyrazinamide is an FDA pregnancy category C drug. Do not take this medication without your doctor’s advice if you are pregnant or breast feeding. This medication can pass into breast milk and harm a nursing baby.
You must complete the full course of Pyrazinamide. If you do not complete the medication course as prescribed, you may get a drug resistant infection which will be difficult to treat with common antibiotics.
BEFORE TAKING PYRAZINAMIDE:
Pyrazinamide (Pyzina) is a prescription-only drug and available only with a doctor’s prescription. Before taking it, you must consult a doctor. Let him or her know in advance if you have any of the following conditions: liver disease, gout, kidney disease, or diabetes mellitus.
HOW SHOULD I TAKE PYRAZINAMIDE?
Take Pyrazinamide strictly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not make any changes in using the medication without his or her advice. All medications come with a patient leaflet. Follow the instructions in them if you have any doubt. However, remember that your doctor’s advice overrides everything else.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A DOSE OF PYRAZINAMIDE?
Don’t miss a single dose of Pyrazinamide. But if you do miss a dose for some reasons, take it as soon as you remember it. However, forget about the missed dose if the time for the next dose is near. Don’t take multiple doses close to each other to compensate for the missed dose as that will lead to extra medicine in your body at one time which can be

WHAT SHOULD I AVOID WHILE TAKING PYRAZINAMIDE?
Follow any diet, drug or activity restrictions advised by your doctor while taking Pyrazinamide.

PYRAZINAMIDE DOSING INFORMATION:
Pyrazinamide dosage may depend on a range of factors like seriousness of the condition, age, sex, or drug allergies among a host of several other factors.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DRUGS:
There are some drugs which can interact with Pyrazinamide or vice versa. This medication can reduce the effects of allopurinol. Let your doctor know in advance if you are using this medication or any other medicines. Pyrazinamide may also affect Acetest and Ketostix urine tests for ketones.
Drugs other than those mentioned here may also interact with Pyrazinamide. Do not start a new medication without going to a doctor or without proper medical advice.
